This is a small, quick sketch I did. Sloppy, but I liked the design, so I colored it and tossed it up here. I see it as some kind of construction mech which was modified to meet baseline combat capabilities.
I added this to my favorites a while ago, but I've recently been hunting around for non-military mecha and battlefield expedient mecha/technicals for a short while now (as inspiration for a Mekton-Z game that I'm running, as it happens), and I'm dismayed at how little there seems to be. Excellent work and not too hard to see what it probably looked like unmodified.
Thanks very much! You're an observant fellow -- I was indeed thinking Kondo/Kobayashi on the gun. The main unit was most inspired by some of the old, obscure prototype ATs depicted in Dual Magazine. You can see them here: [link]
Nice. I like the junior mobile suit feel that this design has. It also works well in that it's clearly not a dedicated combat design, and so it feels a bit "kitbashed," which gives you the feeling that taking this thing into a actual firefight is perhaps riskier than one might like.
Hey, thanks for the cogent commentary. I was inspired by some drawings I saw of early Votoms ATs... like pre-pre-Scopedog designs. Construction/industrial units do seem like a logical starting point for what eventually becomes a military design.
