IMK-04 Mauler KMA P-1121 by Grebo-Guru IMK-04 Mauler KMA P-1121 by Grebo-Guru
Nothing super-special here, just my drawing the ol' Mauler from Mekton II. I wanted to give it a better rendering than it got in the book. In order to make it look less like the Marasai Mobile Suit (from Zeta Gundam) or the Grimekaiser SPT (from Layzner) I gave it the colors of Dragonar's Falguen Metal Armor.

Borrowing an idea from Star Blade Battalion, I see the Mauler having a "variable cockpit." The idea is that when not in combat, the pilot is in the head and has a clear view through the canopy. When combat is imminent the pilot seat retracts down the neck and into the heavily armored torso. Sensors then slide into the head's open space and the canopy smokes over. Plus, the pilot seat can shoot back up into the head and the whole thing can detach and fly away as an escape vehicle. Always loved that idea. Thanks, Star Blade Battalion!

Lineart can be found here: [link]

The flightless but heavily armed Strike version can be found here: [link]

Aaaaaaannnnnd just to be safe... The Mauler is the I.P. of R. Talsorian games. No infringement intended nor implied, etc etc etc.

Ah yes, the good old Mauler from Mekton II, standard enemy hench-mekton, apart from the six-pack Zakars. Good times.... :) (Smile) This version does look a lot cleaner than the original design. Some of those designs look like Mike didn't have a lot of time in the publishing deadline, so he took the completed rough and printed 'em. They still fired the imagination though!

Thanks! Mark Simmons' revisitation of the Mauler (which you can see on the Mekton Zero kickstarter page) really puts mine to shame, though.

The Mauler! It brings me so many good memories! I love how the Mauler's design screams "We Kargans mean business!".

Yeah, the Kargans are rather Klingon in their ways... :-)

Innovative design, but I'd simplify the cockpit design as much as possible, to minimize the chance of a malfunction (suppose the head detaches while the pilot is still INSIDE the torso?), reduce production and maintenance costs.

Again, you're thinking about this way too logically. If we're gonna start thinking about maintenance and reliability, we really shouldn't even be considering giant robotic combat vehicles at all. Way too big a target, covered with bullet traps, insane amounts of maintenace and repair, highly inefficient weight-wise, overly complex... the works.

isn't this close to an elite team coloring in rimfire?

The Mauler always had potential, so it's nice to see it get some love. The Vector, however is dire... if you do some magic on that one, it would be a miracle. :)
