This is an original Mekton I drew. I love R. Talsorian Games' "Mekton Z" game. Anyway, more of this later perhaps.

Wow, my son just told me you're one of the designers from MTS. I am more of a fan of Mekton II, but my son runs Mekton Z. We help each other out with our campaigns. I know they are out of fashion, but I like a lot of the old Dougram mecha and the destroids from Macross/Robotech. Your designs often incorporate hints of these old mecha and I love it.

Yeah, I was an artist for the Mekton Techbook, and I wrote a lot of stuff for Mekton Z and Mektopn Z+, amont other things.
Really glad you like my work. Mekton is going to have a new edition next year, I hope you and your son both enjoy it!

This is a really cool design. Cylinder limb segments aren't necessarily my thing, but they work on this unit (and in general they work in establishing that this is a mass-production suit and not a Super Prototype). Judging by the size/shape of the cockpit box, is this on Striker-class servos?

Also, the gun in the corner and my lack of clarity on whether it's a beam weapon or a projectile weapon are giving me thoughts about reworking the weapons rules for my next campaign to eliminate the difference between Energy and Physical guns and melee weapons. It seems to me that there's no need for a sharp difference from a game mechanics POV between "sharp giant sword" and "glowstick of dismemberment" or between "gun that shoots bullets" and "laser gun."

(sorry I'm using your comments section to work out my own thoughts about game design issues as affect giant robots, maybe this is something that should go to the MZML, except IIRC it's been hashed out multiple times there).

Thanks for the kudos. I made the biceps and thighs cylindrical in order to add some curved surfaces to an otherwise purely angular arrangment. I never actually built this thing in MTS, so I couldn't tell ya about its servo classes.

Are you part of the Mekton Zeta Mailing List? Your idea about removing the distinction between physical and energy weapons has been bandied about quite a bit there. I actually agree. I like MTS very much, but it's not perfect. In order to be more purely effects based, there are several tweaks I would make -- among them, removing the differences between physical and energy weapons and making the advantages/disadvatages of each optional modifiers.

Don't worry about geeking out with me here, I like this stuff. And... oh, yeah, you are on the MZML. Heh, cool!

You think? I guess it might sortof -- sortof -- fit in with the robots from Southern Cross. Beyond that, I don't see it. But I'm glad you like it!
